Why am I running?
The Cycle Ends With Us
I didn’t learn about politics from a textbook or a cable news studio. I learned about it at the kitchen table, growing up in a community where poverty didn’t care which yard sign you had out front.
I grew up surrounded by both avid Democrats and lifelong Republicans. Despite their deep ideological divides, they shared one painful, recurring experience: they were all being left behind.
Two Sides of the Same Coin
For decades, we’ve been told that the “other side” is the reason our schools are struggling, our infrastructure is crumbling, and our wallets are thinning. But if you step back and look at the bigger picture, a sobering reality emerges.
Both parties have become masters of the “permanent campaign”—prioritizing party loyalty and fundraising over the actual will of the voters. They have become two sides of the same coin, obsessed with maintaining their own power while the average American pays the price.
Putting People Over Party
I have watched both parties sell out their constituents for short-term political gains. I’ve seen them trade our future for a headline. We are living in an era where:
- The Party comes first.
- The Donor comes second.
- The Voter is an afterthought.
I am running because I refuse to accept that this is the best we can do. I am running because the people I grew up with—the hardworking families who do everything right but still can’t get ahead—deserve a representative who answers to them, not a party whip in a distant office.
My Promise to You
I am not here to serve a color or a mascot. I am here to serve the people. It’s time we stopped voting for a party and started voting for ourselves again. My mission is simple: to return the power to the voters and ensure that the “average American” is never again treated as a political pawn.
The system is designed to keep us divided so we don’t notice we’re being ignored. Let’s change the design.

Mike Smith: A Voice for Choice and Change
I am not a career politician; I am a run of the mill Ohioan who believes we all deserve better from our elected officials.
I am running because we don’t currently have a true choice; we have a duopoly that manages us rather than representing us. To me, Choice and Change means:
- Breaking the Two-Party Grip: Creating a space for candidates who answer to the people, not a party boss.
- Voter Will Above All: Re-establishing the mandate that the “will of the voters” is the only priority.
- Real Representation: Bringing the work ethic of the factory floor and the strategic mind of the corporate office to government.
We deserve a candidate who remembers where they came from. I haven’t forgotten the struggle, and I won’t ignore your voice for the sake of a party line.
